Jacob Reeves is a music educator and percussionist based in Northern Virginia, currently serving as Band Director at Gum Spring Middle School (formerly Mercer Middle School) in Loudoun County. He is the recipient of the Virginia Music Educators Association Outstanding Beginning Teacher Award (2025) and was recognized as a Loudoun County Public Schools Teacher of the Year Nominee in 2025. He has also been recognized with the LEAD Teacher Award (2025) from GMS. Under his leadership, student ensembles have consistently earned Superior ratings at assessment, and his students have been selected to perform for county-wide learning walks.
Mr. Reeves is also actively involved at Freedom High School, where he serves as Assistant Director for the Spirit of Freedom Marching Band and Director of the Indoor Drumline. His ensembles have achieved consistent competitive success, including top placements in Atlantic Indoor Association competitions, a Bronze Medal (2023) and Silver Medal (2026) at AIA North Championships, and multiple WGI Regional Finalist appearances. The marching band program has earned Best Percussion in Virginia since 2022 and has performed as a BOA Regional Finalist in 2024 and 2025. He has also taken percussion ensembles to Indiana to compete and perform in the Percussive Arts Society International Convention which have resulted in new music publishing recording for C. Alan Publications.
In addition to his teaching roles, Mr. Reeves maintains an active presence as a percussion instructor, clinician, adjudicator, and presenter for Loudoun County-wide professional development. Mr. Reeves earned his Bachelor of Music from James Madison University in 2021 and holds Virginia licensure in both Instrumental and Vocal Music Education (PreK–12). During his career, he has performed in a wide variety of notable venues and events, including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the National Cherry Blossom Parade, the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu, and performances at the Kennedy Center. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family.
