The class would start off with a SMART BOARD activity.  Pictures of different objects and technology would pop up on the screen and students would have to drag them to the side yes or no.  The yes side represents that it is a musical instrument, the no indicates that it is not a musical instrument.  After that activity I would have stations set up around the room with different instruments ranging from brass, winds, percussion, to computers and other advanced music technology.  Students would not need any prior knowledge.  Students would have 20 minutes to explore and learn the different instruments, after the time period finishes I would ask all students to go to their favorite station.  This would allow students to experiment with new musical elements that they haven't before.  It is allowing them to play around with different styles of instruments both classical and more modern ones.  I would then ask each group to explain why they like it and what the pros and cons of it were.  We would spend the rest of the class listening to different types of music like Bach, Pop music, George Crumbs music etc.  The purpose is to get students out of their comfort zones and to have them try to figure things out on their own.  This makes students use their minds.   This will benefit the public for This will hopefully widen their minds to what music is and what music can be.  Students have to be willing to step outside of their comfort zones and be ready to explore new areas of technology.  I hope the students would learn that instruments aren't just clarinets and trumpets, that music comes in all types of forms and that technology is effective but has it benefits and limits.  I would hope that students realize that music comes in all forms and that there are no limits when it comes to expressing yourself.
